Covid Watch

Covid Watch is a UX prototype imagining what an accessible tool might look like for a user to easily find out the transmission levels in their local community; the project was in response to the creator’s frustration at finding easy-to-understand data on the CDC’s own website. I started with a research phase in which I interviewed and observed users navigating the CDC's website to find out the problems other people had with finding pertinent Covid information on the CDC's website. I then took into account business needs, technology and scope limitations. The project brief served as a guide to the needs and scope of the prototype application. These mockups were made using Figma and Photoshop.

The idea was to present the data in the simplest way possible through visuals and easy-to-navigate dropdown menus so that that users could easily find out the transmission rate in their community. I didn't want to put too many metrics in one app to start out, because I didn't want the interface to be too confusing/cluttered. At the same time, I wanted to provide a section where people could learn in depth a bit more about the current conditions of Covid beyond just local transmission, which was why "Weekly Overview Reports" were included in the app prototype.

This was helpful in fleshing out what pages I would need to build for the app and to have a better understanding of how the experience would flow for the user.
